Sign rookie McCollum as injuries bite pass catchers

The Cardinals are still a week away from their first preseason game, but they have had to juggle the wide receiver corps.

The latest move is putting veteran Quez Watkins on Injured Reserve, which would end his season barring an injury settlement. To replace him on the roster, the Cardinals signed undrafted rookie Nate McCollum, who played at North Carolina and was briefly with the Seahawks this offseason.

Watkins had left Thursday's practice early.

At wide receiver, the Cardinals already have had Marvin Harrison Jr. and Bryson Green sitting out practice, and then Michael Wilson left Friday's practice after taking the knee of safety Budda Baker to the head on a play. His status for Saturday's practice is TBA.

Harrison's issue is not believed to be serious. The Cardinals have an off day Sunday and then only a walkthrough on Monday before returning to helmeted work on Tuesday as they prepare for the opener against the Chiefs Aug. 9 at State Farm Stadium.
