North Carolina State RB Hines declares for NFL draft

Sports Xchange - Saturday 13th January, 2018

North Carolina State running back Nyheim Hines announced Friday that he is forgoing his senior season and declaring for the NFL draft.

Hines made the announcement on twitter and wrote:

"I would like to thank the coaches for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play at my dream school. I appreciate everybody at NC State who has helped me along the way. Last, but not least, I want to thank Wolfpack Nation for always supporting me -- even in high school -- to help make my dream come true. NC State will always be a part of me wherever I am in life, and I will always be drawn back here."

NFLDraftScout.com rates Hines as the No. 117 overall prospect and the No. 9 running back prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Hines was an All-ACC selection at running back and a third-team choice on special teams. He led the league with 143.7 all-purpose yards per game last season, and it was the fifth-highest mark for a player for a Power 5 conference.

Hines finished with 1,112 rushing yards on 197 carries and scored 12 rushing touchdowns last season. He also finished with 1,868 all-purpose yards and ended his collegiate career with three rushing TDs in a 52-31 win over Arizona State in the Sun Bowl.

Hines also recorded a 92-yard punt return for a score in a 35-17 win at Pittsburgh on Oct. 14.

The 5-foot-9 Hines helped North Carolina State to a 9-4 record and No. 23 ranking. He missed parts of two games with an ankle injury and the second half of a third contest while being evaluated for a concussion.

He also was a track star for the school as the ACC champion and all-American in the leadoff leg for the Wolfpack's 4x100 meter relay team. Hines also was an all-conference selection for the 60- and 100-meter events.

Before this season, Hines was mostly a receiver in his first two seasons. In 2016, Hines recorded 43 catches for 525 yards.
